My review:

Tim is hanging with his friends when his wallet is swiped right from his pocket by a pink hair girl. He confronts that girl at school, they eventually become friends and he grows very protective of her.

Sophie is a big part of the story, hence the title, but it’s told mostly by Tim with a few chime ins from his best friend, Jeff. I admired Tim’s character. He goes through a realistic grieving process when his grandpa, who was there for him every step of the way, passes away. He learns something heartbreaking about Sophie’s home life that has him planning out how he can best help her. I’m not sure I agree with what he does, however I appreciated his tenacity to do what was right in his eyes. There is something that happens with Jeff that wasn’t handled perfectly, but probably in an age appropriate way.

Overall, I did find this quick read to be a well written debut. I’m not too big on sci-fi, but the scenes with the androids seemed realistic and the way of our future.

Book blurb:

Oxford, England, September 2023. A world not quite our own…

Fifteen-year-old Tim Alto has one thing on his mind, and one thing only. Not to make a complete fool of himself in front of his crush at the end of summer party (which isnā€™t easy when your overly tight jeans are making you walk like a penguin). But, in a city where androids are part of everyday life, anything can happen. A stolen wallet ruins Timā€™s evening, and things go from bad to worse when the perpetrator shows up at school the next day.

Tim suddenly finds himself thrust onto a path filled with assault, grief, tests of friendship and unexpected romance.

A path that will lead Tim to question what it really means to be human.

  1. Liking the cover. Its one of those that gives nothing away and has me intrigued. Despite liking the themes covered I’m not sure they aren’t themes I haven’t seen done a million times before if not exactly with a sci-fi twist which if I’m to be honest puts me off a bit.

I'd love to hear your thoughts
