ARC Review: Friend Zone by Paige Ryan

My review: 4⭐

Book 4 in the Perfect Catch series. Yes, it’s technically a stand-alone, but please do yourself a favor and read them in order.

Hallelujah! We finally have proof Ben is the tool we all, except Ellie, knew he was. I feel like I’ve been waiting for ages for Ellie and Frisk’s story and it was as fun as I knew it would be.

Ellie, or Mini, as Frisk has always called her, is a super smart Neuroscience researcher and went to college when she was only 16. She has only had one boyfriend and lacks sexual experience. Frisk has the sexual experience, but lacks dating experience, so they make a plan to teach each other what they know. They call each other their ‘sexy research partner’ or friends with benefits as others would call it.

Even when they’re not having ‘dessert’ they are so sweet together. I wish I could meet the ‘giant’ and see if his hands are really the size of dinner plates.
Told solely in Ellie’s POV. I appreciate the epilogue with Frisk’s POV, but I could always go for a few more chapters to get his take on things. We get the inevitable misunderstandings as expected, but I like how it was all wrapped up, especially with Ellie’s career.

This is a slow burn that’s on the longer side with some repetition, but I enjoy this series so much. I love the bond that this friend group has. It’s great that the characters in the previous books are heavily involved in each book and we get updates of how their lives are progressing. I look forward to the next installment and I like how Paige subtlety has been dropping hints of who our next couples will be in every book.

Book blurb:

I’ve heard people say that becoming friends with benefits is never a good idea and I would agree with that statement.

That’s why I don’t have a friend with benefits, I have a sexy research partner! Someone to help me get some of the sexually adventurous experiences that I missed out on when I went to college at an early age. David Friskleson—Frisk, as he’s known to everyone—my hot, funny, famous football-playing best friend has kindly offered to be my sexy research partner and assist in all my experiments.

And I’m helping him too. Frisk isn’t used to dating and relationships so I’ve agreed to be his dating coach. Someone to help him practice his dating skills so that he’ll feel ready to begin a real relationship when the right woman comes along.

It’s the perfect arrangement for both of us.

There’s really just one problem—I accidentally fell head over heels for my sexy research partner. I don’t even know how it happened. It might have been the cute practice dates he took me on that made me see what an amazing boyfriend he would be, the toe-curling kisses we exchanged that had my over-analytical brain quieting for the first time in my life, or maybe the decadent dessert the two of us always seemed to be having together. I really wasn’t sure what it was exactly.

The only thing I knew for certain is that I needed to find some way to get myself out of the friend-zone…
