My review:
Leonie made a terrible mistake when she was 16. A mistake that she’ll feel guilty about for years to come. Not so guilty that she won’t make a wonderful life for herself with a flourishing career though, and now she has a handsome fiance to make her life complete.
Carrie is down on her luck at a dead end job and living with people she hates. Will a new job help her to get back on track with what she truly wants to do?
No one is particularly likable, especially Leonie’s father, who was so annoyingly awful. He’s the one that should feel the most guilt IMO.
It’s no secret where the plot is taking us, but the journey of revenge is a pretty intense ride towards the end. Overall, another great read by Rijks with a surprise or two you won’t see coming.
Narration notes:
Both narrators were fine overall. I didn’t care for their male parts, as they gave them a sort of condescending tone. I guess maybe that does work well the more I think about it.

Book blurb:
Leonie has the perfect life. Someone wants to take it away.
Leonie is living her best life. Still in her twenties, she’s beautiful, successful and has just met Markus, the man of her dreams.
But Leonie has a secret. Ten years ago, she was involved in an accident in which another driver died. Leonie shouldn’t have been behind the wheel that night – no license, no insurance – so she fled the scene. And ever since, she’s been struggling to deal with the terrible guilt.
Now, as her wedding to Markus draws near, it seems someone is out to get her. It’s little things at first – botched work appointments, a cancelled bridal dress – but it soon escalates into a terrifying campaign which threatens her business, her family and even her life.
Leonie, caught up in a relentless nightmare, has no idea why anyone would set out to destroy her. Until she realizes there’s a link to the accident that happened all those years ago.
Someone knows what she did. Someone is determined to make her pay.
Make Her Pay – the gripping psychological thriller from the best-selling author of The Visitors and What She Knew.

I’m literally reading this now so I was hoping you didn’t give too much away and no–this review was PERFECT. This is my first time “reading” a Miranda Rijks’ book: I’ve only listened to them on audiobook thus far. I really enjoy her writing (I think I’ve listened to 95% of her work). Usually her narrators are 100% brilliant. I’m bummed the male voices in this weren’t perfect. It will be interesting to not have voices telling me the story; just words this time. I love it so far. Thanks for the great review.
Thanks, Lisa! I really enjoy her work and I don’t feel like that many people know about how good she is.
