Sam is in charge of fundraising at Green Meadow Hospice. She absolutely loves her job and it really shows. She works tirelessly on planning and executing events, and she still has time to co-mingle with the residents. Speaking of the residents ~ they were all so sweet and fun.
Although the love interest to me was obvious from the get go I am not going to give anything away in my featuring like I usually do just in case you want to be surprised. Do I wish Sam saw what was there all along sooner than she did, sure do, but what would life be without the journey to figure things out in your own time.
Sam’s bff’s were all great ~ they’re there when needed and ready to give her a swift kick if she needs one. Not giving anything away here either, but I am so happy with Charles’ response at the end.
Overall, this was a pretty great debut. It had me laughing quite a few times and kept me engaged. I wouldn’t mind if this was series, so we can see more of the relationship development of these two love birds.
Small side note ~ although I like it, the cover seems more like this would be a children’s fiction book, not adult. I like how the cakes are incorporated, though, because Sam is a big fan of them.

Book blurb:
Samantha James has always dreamt of a love that would sweep her off her feet. Landing face down in front of Ross Carrington wasn’t quite what she had in mind, but Sam is determined to make it work. Ross is the handsome, enigmatic son of an influential board member at Green Meadow Hospice, where Sam works as a fundraising manager, and the latest in a series of recruits tasked with saving Butterford’s beloved hospice from financial ruin. Green Meadow holds a special place in Sam’s heart, and she is as dedicated to its survival as she is to sparking romance between her and Ross. But, with her campaign efforts falling short of the funds the hospice desperately needs, and Ross’ mixed signals leaving her in a constant state of confusion, Sam isn’t sure any of her endeavours will succeed. She’s going to need the support of her friends, family, and the community she’s always found in the hospice, and can only hope that it’s enough.

When I saw the cover, I thought it was a middle grade story, then I read your review. The cover is quite misleading.
It really is!
