Standalone Third book in the Abbeyglen series

Netflix or a book, Netflix or a book …

Have you ever just had one of those days? Yes, you have, but have you ever had one of those days and then another of those days until suddenly you find you’ve had a whole week of those days and you’re wrecked? What is your instinct? It’s Netflix, isn’t it? I’ve had work colleagues that watch a bit of Netflix in their fifteen minute break and while I think Netflix has it’s definite purpose (Girls5Eva and Motherland, I’m looking at you! Dogs Behaving Badly, why would they take you away?), it’s time, everyone-it’s time.

Yes, much as my mother is covering her ears and screaming ‘la la la, I can’t hear you!’ the evenings are beginning to close in (or maybe you’re somewhere they’re really not, but still bear with me!), the curtains are closer to closing early, lights on etc. This is not the time to spend flick, flick, flicking (on a weekend go for it of course!).

Did you know the average person spends over half an hour looking for something to watch or arguing over what to watch (determined by very non-scientific Google so ssh, don’t quote me on that!)? By this time, you could have your eReader on or your paperback out and be stepping into another world via beautiful words and imagery (again, not knocking the brilliant Netflix!).

Reading, possibly in silence, clears your head out and focuses you, sending you into whatever book you’re reading, a world of cafes and warm characters, onto a murder scene, or maybe into a heated, passionate embrace! Personally, I’m thinking places like Netflix should be more of a treat, a twice weekly thing, and books should become our go to (obviously I’m speaking to readers here!). With a full Kindle myself, I’ve fallen into the tv trap, and am definitely feeling the hangover I used to only get in university with two for a fiver drink nights out!

Reading builds that imagination back up, it relieves stress and most importantly, it transports you to places to give you that escapism from the days where things aren’t going so badly. Also, speaking from a romance writer’s point of view, it leads you into happier places, you can head off to sunny settings, preferably on a plane where the love interest is sitting in that seat next to you, or to a cosy little café, where the owner is sprucing the place up for Christmas! Also, it’s also so portable! I recently sat in a hospital for most of the day and was so hooked (Faith Hogan’s Little Guest House by The Sea for anyone who wants a recommendation) that I laughed when the nurse apologised for my ‘long day’! I’ve also recently had waaayyy too short a bus journey via Fiona Leitch’s cosy (and hilarious) murder mysteries or Jesse Sutano’s The Good, The Bad and The Aunties (again a funny escapade mystery type book!). Also, don’t get me started on audio. Just sit back and relax and someone does the reading FOR you! So, just a bit of food for thought (frozen grapes for a night time treat instead of the kettle crisps (again, come on the weekend!)) for when you’re about to switch on the telly. Maybe tonight is the night you’ll curl up with a book instead! Even if you don’t, enjoy!

Book blurb:

Christmas has been all but forgotten as a negative pregnancy test makes Rachel reconsider her future with Todd. The realisation sends her to the small town of Abbeyglen where the opening of Caulfield’s Café is all anyone’s talking about. But it also has her beginning to see returning colleague at Blackwater Financial Services, the loud, hilarious Owen Larrson in a new light.

Natalie has decided she needs a change. In the midst of Christmas craziness, with the grand opening of the café and the excitement of her two children’s Christmas concert, Natalie can only hope the people of Blackwater Financial Services can help her find the job that will change her life. But as ex-boyfriend Darren returns, she realises luck might not be on her side for a bright Christmas after all …

Join two women who are trying to figure out what the rest of their lives hold, in the midst of the mayhem of the most wonderful time of the year in the most wonderful place to be!
