My review: 3ā
Becca was Conrad’s tutor and friend in high school, until he broke her heart. Years later he’s a star quarterback and she’s a reporter that plans to give him a dose of his own medicine.
I really liked the multiple point of view writing and the banter between Conrad (Hawk) and his teammates. Conrad is just a big ole teddy bear that felt he had to play the dumb jock jerk.
Can Becca see that he really is a good guy underneath?
This quick story is kind of a friends to enemies-ish to lovers and kind of an insta-love. I did not feel it was a true rom-com as stated in the description.
I will probably read the rest of the series since we got a sneak peak of the other characters personalities, so I’d like to see how their lives play out.
My copy was badly edited, so I do hope adjustments are made before it goes live.
**Many thanks to NetGalley, Dragon Realm Press and the authors for the advanced reader copy in exchange for my honest review**
Book blurb: Release date ~ January 11, 2022
Hawk Florence has always been the football star, the guy that can make any girl fall in love with him- and then break their heart. And thatās exactly what he did to me way back in high school. Now Iāve been assigned to do a puff piece on him for a national sports journal, and Iām more than ready to get my revenge.
The plan is simple. First, sit him down and flatter the shit out of him. Laugh at his crappy jokes. Touch his arm, let it linger. When he asks me out, Iāll flutter my eyelashes and shyly accept. Then, make him fall in love. And devour him. Iām ready. I wonāt fail. But there’s one thing that I didnāt plan for: he doesnāt ask me out. Instead, he calls me out on my BS. Heās not wrong, but thatās just one of the ways that my plan has already gone terribly wrong before it even begins.
When he does finally ask me out, it isnāt much of a date. Instead, itās a few agonizing hours of going back and forth about why we hate each other. But there is one interesting thing that came out of our brief time together: the bet that Hawk makes with me- that he will make me fall in love in 3 weeks, in love for real. If he fails, heāll give me every exclusive for the season. Of course, I accept. Why wouldnāt I? This will help my career, and itās not like he has a prayer anyway. This jerk broke my heart in high school, and thereās no way that I will fall for the same trick twice. Or will I?
All bets are off when it comes to the heart. Fumbled is a standalone sports romcom that will make you wonder what to do when love- and football- gives you a second chance….
