My review: 4.5 ⭐
This is book #1 in the Blazers Hockey Romance Series
Hockey romances are one of my favorites and I especially love it when the MC is sweet. In fact, both Hope and Beck are as sweet as mint double stuffed chocolate chip cookies. And guess what? ~~ he cooks too!! 🥩 🦃 🥧
Hope just got promoted to Director of Digital Media and Communications for the NHL team the San Jose Blazers. A job she loves and has worked hard for and absolutely cannot lose. Hope is devoted to taking care of the grandparents that raised her, so when her grandfather has a stroke she takes on all his medical bills when barely making ends meet for herself. So it’s a no brainer when she signs a contract forbidding her from fraternizing with the players. When she is assigned the task of promoting Becktober and starts to get to know the hot Captain, she does her best to avoid catching feelings.
Newly appointed Captain, Beck, has to lead the team from last place to first place in only 8 weeks or he’ll lose his Captain badge. He does not need any distractions, so when he meets Hope he vows to stay away. When the attraction intensify’s that proves easier said than done, for both of them.
It’s a slow burn, under 200 pages and told from dual perspectives. The story flowed along at a nice pace and all the characters were likable, except it wouldn’t be a story if there wasn’t a crazy ex to stir things up. There was a little bit of repetitiveness and lots of smirking and winking, but, all in all, this was a great start to a new series 🏒! I look forward to the next book that follows Chase and Emily ~ we already saw some tension, so I can’t wait to see what’s up with them. I was delighted to get the extra epilogue with the years later update too.

A new captain…
As the new captain of the San Jose Blazers, the worst team in professional hockey, Beck Levesque has mere weeks to lead his team to the top. If he fails, he must forfeit the captaincy that honors his late father’s legacy. With no time in his life for distractions, the last thing he needs is to be forced to spend time with the captivating honey blonde who ambushes him outside the locker room.
A new promotion…
Recently promoted to marketing director at the Blazers’ headquarters, Hope Goodwin is desperate for the income the position provides in order to pay her grandfather’s medical bills. Knowing her predecessor was the center of a workplace scandal, Hope vows to keep her head down and remain focused, even when the job requires her to work closely with the sexy new team captain on a marketing campaign.
An attraction that can’t be denied…
As Beck and Hope work together, temptation flares. But Hope is the distraction Beck can’t allow, and Beck is the scandal Hope can’t afford.
